Serving up festive fare and classic cocktails with a twist, Diane Powers’ award-winning Bazaar del Mundo restaurants – Casa Guadalajara, Casa de Pico, Casa de Bandini and Casa Sol y Mar – now present a unique menu that incorporates traditional holiday flavors into authentic Mexican offerings, available through the New Year.
The restaurants are beautifully decorated for holiday cheer with colorful Christmas trees dressed in handmade Mexican ornaments, Mexican paper flowers, donkey, bull and horse piñatas, painted tin ornaments, and lighted chili ristras. Strolling mariachis add to each restaurant’s cheerful ambiance.
Casa Guadalajara’s holiday menus includes Turkey Mole Tamales, a beloved Mexican tradition, filled with tender turkey, raisins, chopped pecans and apples, all topped with a rich mole sauce and sesame seeds. Served with achiote vegetables and black beans.
Other seasonal specials include: Enchiladas Poblanas, Enchiladas de Picadillo con Papa, Chipotle Cranberry Chicken and Crema de Elote con Pollo.
Through December 15, guests can buy a $50 gift card at any of the restaurants and receive a free $10 gift card; a $25 free gift card comes with the purchase of a $100 gift card.

Folk Art & More at the Latin American Festival & Mata Ortiz Pottery Market, August 2-4

There is no need to travel to the deepest regions of Mexico in order to experience some of the world’s most vibrant Latin American folk art and Mexican pottery – just visit the Bazaar del Mundo Shops’ Latin American Festival and Mata Ortiz Pottery Market, August 2 to 4, in OldTown,San Diego.
The colorful marketplace hidden beneath a colorful array of umbrellas with artists from Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, Ecuador and other Latin American countries, showcases one of the most extensive collections of genuine Latin American folk art, traditional clothing and textiles and colorful collectibles and radiant jewelry this side of the border. Guests can peruse authentic, hand-painted Mata Ortiz Pottery, colorful Mexican folk art and vibrant artisan jewelry.
The Festival exhibits San Diego’s largest collection of authentic Mata Ortiz pottery, a centuries-old art form renowned for its detailed process and hand-painted geometric and ancestral symbols, with several skilled potters showcasing their wares, including Jorge Quintana – a principal Mata Ortiz artist whose work has been displayed in museums all over the world.
Live demonstrations will be performed for eager festival-goers, as artists hack away at wooden stumps to reveal life-like animal figures, weave hand-pulled wool into intricate textiles and skillfully paint delicate designs onto hand-formed clay pots.
Other custom crafts and sought-after handmade goods include: San Antonio embroidery, tinwork, Talavera pottery, Oaxacan wooden animal carvings, Guatemalan weaving, various colorful and symbolic wall art and sculptures, Huichol yarn and bead paintings and one-of-a-kind pottery.
Musical entertainment will be provided by TINKU, a Latin American Folk band performing over 19 musical rhythms from throughout Latin Americaon authentic native instruments. Mouth-watering Mexican cuisine from neighboring Casa Guadalajara restaurant will be for sale.
Admission is free. The event runs 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Catering for All Events: Our Place or Yours
The holiday season is fast approaching, and our schedule is filling up fast. Our Casa Guadalajara catering group provides the finest in Mexican cuisine catering at your location or at our restaurant at 4105 Taylor St. in Old Town, San Diego. Revered by many as the best Mexican Restaurant in San Diego, we take the pressure off of you by taking care of all of the personal details that make your event unique and memorable.
All of our events are custom designed to provide a unique experience for your group. Since 1995 dozens of companies and organizations have enjoyed our full service catering for their end of year parties. In lieu of the traditional holiday “office party”, many companies host a pre-Thanksgiving dinner for their employees and/or customers. Since you’ll probably be eating Turkey on Thanksgiving day, we’ll put together for you a special menu that will make your event one which everyone will remember for years to come.
For your holiday party our Courtyard and Garden Rooms provide you with a private, intimate atmosphere for you to celebrate ’till your hearts are content. Our Director of Catering and Special Events, Catherine Breedlove, will create an event to remember for you. Catherine is extremely creative and goes above and beyond to be sure all of your guests are given the special treatment you want them to experience.
